ISBN: Frequently Asked Questions

ISBN 10 or ISBN 13? What kind of ISBN do I want?

All modern book barcodes use ISBN-13, so that's the symbology you want to use - ISBN-10 is no longer valid. If you have an ISBN-10 barcode number, select the "ISBN-10" symbology and enter your number - Easy Barcode Creator will automatically update it to an ISBN-13 number.

How do I use price extensions?

Price extensions are sometimes used to indicate the retail price of an item (usually a book) in the United States and Canada. Click on the Set Price button, then type "33.50" for $33.50.

Can I create a price extension for over $99.98?
Yes. See this link for details on what to enter into the Add-On field: http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/bisg.org/resource/resmgr/Files/Publications/Labels_and_Barcodes/Price_Increase_in_Add-on.pdf

Can I create a price extension for currencies outside U.S. and Canadian Dollars?
You should not do this, per the International ISBN Agency's current standards. See Section 8.3 of the ISBN Users' Manual for more information.
